How Comfortable Is Invisalign?
Invisalign’s aligners are made from high-grade thermoplastic resin that is custom-contoured to your teeth. The aligners are also thin and transparent, making them almost invisible when worn. The smooth plastic material prevents irritation or discomfort to the gums and mouth tissue. Unlike traditional braces that use metal brackets to grip the teeth together, the Invisalign system relies on gentle pressure to move teeth into their proper position. Patients often find that Invisalign treatment does not cause the same pain or discomfort as traditional braces.
Many patients enjoy that Invisalign allows them to remove the aligners when necessary. After eating lunch, for example, a patient can remove their aligners to eat comfortably and clean their teeth thoroughly before replacing them. Similarly, they may remove the aligners before bed, so they do not have to wear them while sleeping. When undergoing orthodontic treatment with Invisalign, there are no dietary restrictions and no painful wires or brackets to contend with.
How Does Invisalign Work?
As the patient, you would wear a series of custom-made, clear removable aligners to straighten your teeth over time. Each set of aligners is worn for approximately two weeks before progressing to the next set in the series. Invisalign is a clear alternative to metal braces to maintain a professional appearance while you straighten your smile.
The aligner trays are smooth thermoplastic material that will not irritate your cheeks and gums like traditional metal brackets. This also allows patients to take their trays to eat and clean their teeth. Be sure to wear the aligners for at least 22 hours daily for the best results. Wear them all night to make sure your treatment progresses on schedule.
